Job Description

McColm Racing is an established and growing racehorse training complex in Murwillumbah.  Situated on 5 acre’s, parallel to Tweed River Jockey Club and only 25 minutes to the Gold Coast, our establishment is ideal to support a lifestyle change within the racing industry.

Currently housing a small team of racehorses and we’re looking for someone with experience in all aspects of horsemanship.

You’ll come with experience working within the racing industry or in a stud/spelling establishment.  You’re looking for a role where you can utilise all your skills including, working with young horses, property maintenance and ad hock farm building and development.  You’re strong, fit, energic, extremely reliable, trustworthy and have exceptional attention to detail.  Your easy-going nature and a positive ‘CAN DO’ attitude mean you’re always willing to help out with any area of the business as needed.  You enjoy working independently and/or within a small team of dedicated people.  You’re patient with young horses and value their health and wellbeing.  You also prioritise your own personal care and safety at all times.  You have previous experience riding horses, either through the racing industry (track work rider), pony club/show jumping/camp drafting or cattle station experience.  You’re looking for a long-term position where you can feel part of a team, make a difference and feel valued for your skills and experience.

This is a highly responsible and challenging role requiring an understanding of all elements of the racing industry. You’ll also be required to take responsibility for the stables while the trainer is on leave or at sales events.

You’re come with experience in:

  • Working with young horses
  • Washing, feeding, rugging
  • Horse swimming
  • Treadmill
  • Mucking out stables
  • Fencing and grounds duties
  • Property maintenance
  • Operate farm machinery (preferred but not essential)
  • Riding horses/track work
  • Strapping
  • Current drivers licence

This is a full-time role, above award wages (salary negotiable based on experience between $80,000-$110,000).  Short term accommodation available (if required). Six days/week with some weekends off (pre-arranged).
